Morgan OutIslander

We are begining our search for a sailboat that we will eventually become our liveaboard/ cruising boat when we retire.
We have had a small motor cruiser and have spent some time on friends sailboats. But now we are changing over to sail!
We have been searching ads, marinas etc and we like the early 80's Morgan Out Island 416
Does anybody have any input? Sailing qualities, handling under power? Etc

Thanks!

Re: Morgan OutIslander

We have been very pleased living aboard and cruising our Morgan Out Islands since 1973. We've been aboard our current 413 for the last 27 years. The sloops point to windward a little better than the ketches, though we like our ketch for access under the 55' bridges. Downwind performance is lacking in our ketch unless we use our gennaker (cruising chute). Any choice will have compromises, but the Morgan OI gives great space and comfort. Be aware that it's not an "Out Islander", but an Out Island. There is a vessel known as an Islander, but that's not a Morgan.

Thanks CaptForce, we are looking for something with a good combination of comfort and performance, leaning more on the comfort part. hopefully we won't be in any hurry when we get to leave. lol
