Downwind you want it flat as possible though.

Re: Mono that's Cat like!

Danstanford, thanks for Moody DS. Very interesting boat. Tayana42, I have chartered cats in BVI several times. I love floating around the islands, pain killer in hand. But really don't like the way they sail, and don't want to cruise bluewater on them. I know a lot do, and not saying they aren't capable, just personal preference. Time2Go. Let me know what you think of the Shannon HPS. I've been on the boat at Annapolis, like everything about the boat. BUT, I'm concerned about how it sails and if there are any design flaws that owners have experienced. It is a very unique concept and an attempt to bridge the gap I'm talking about. But I want to hear more about how the actually sail. A pretty well known sailboat designer told me he didn't like the shallow draft on the boat and wondered how well it sailed and handled. but who knows. thanks everyone for the feedback and comments. very helpful.

This is a very serious question and I'm sure I'm not the only sailor out there with the same debate/problem going on in their house. Too many spouses bailout of cruising after a year, and too many sailors end up sailing alone or sailing on a cat and wishing they were on a mono. There has to be a good compromise.
Abbreviated your quote just a bit.....

Sorry to say, but I really think you need to need to pay more attention to her desires;..... if you really want her to join in with both feet, and if you want her to agree to the money being spent on such a 'family budgeted item'.

I agree with you that many cats are ugly (and this from a multihull guy). But that doesn't have to be the case. What do you think of this one?

I need a mono/cat! Would like to hear of Boat recommendations and ideas that are out there that have the most cat characteristics, but are monos?? Blue water capable only. Pilot houses are a definite possibility.

40 to 80 ft range and let's ignore the costs for now and pretend we're using Monopoly money.

Thoughts and ideas?

Thanks.
Get a tri. sail like a mono flat as a cat.. Sacrifice the space unless you go big.
Part wise ass and part truth. I think you need to determine your priorities.

Interesting monohull, and I believe you might find a used one at a pretty good price.

I am primarily a multihull guy, so I really appreciate a shallow water capabilty for a boat utilized on the east coast of the USA, and Bahamas. I personally believe it is a very innovative design.

Wish them the best, innovation is tough to sell.

Re: Mono that's Cat like!

As mentioned earlier in this thread.

The Moody is what you are looking for.

https://www.moodyboats.com/gb.html

Same hulls as Hanse, but really nice interior.

Good luck!

Re: Mono that's Cat like!

What is "cat like?"

Shallow draft, for sailing in shallow waters?
Good visibility in salon, with "lots of windows" and "lots of light?"
Big cockpit with swim platform for easy entry to boat from a dinghy or for having fun in the water while anchored?
Ability to sail (steer) while sitting inside the salon, with good visibility in all directions?
Modern styling without lots of dark teak?
Beachable?

Yes, this came to my mind too.

The photos that show it beached seem "cat like" to me. Shallow water cruising.

Re: Mono that's Cat like!

Take your wife on two charters in the same place, pick the widest mono you can find and then pick a cat of the same length, any one will do, then the decision will be made for you, it will just be what is the best looking cat you can find. If you force a mono-centric view on her it could end in tears.
