Modern center cockpit ketches or yawls?

I love the look of the center cockpit ketch or yawl with big aft stateroom and transom windows. Whenever I see them though, they're all from the 70's or 80's. Are these type of boat still being made today or have they gone out of favor? And I realize there is nothing wrong with a good older boat, just wondering if they're still being made and any relevant models.

Good question although I've finally narrowed things down to two boats myself. The last thing I need is another choice to ponder lol.

One thing I'll say is I didn't find much when I looked. I really liked the added space but it comes at a price . the two boats I sea trialed really had a lot of windage and were pigs in tight areas. I'd really need a bow thruster to be comfortable with one short handed. I'm not sure what size you're looking at but these were in the 40-45ft range. So its definitely something to keep in mind to check for and might be why they're not as popular. In my experience as limited as it was they weren't something I'd like to make a passage on. But space per dollar the 2 I looked and would've been comfy coastal cruisers or live a boards.

Ketch's have fallen out of favor in the production boats particularly in that size range.


RE older boats, Pearson did make a 422 CC w ketch rig.


They also made the 424 which is aft cockpit, aft cabin and available as a ketch.

Seems the only new boats with ketch rigs are the Amels and the bigger boats over 65ft.

My Amel is from 91, but they made the Super Maramu through 2007 I believe. Gonna cost you a bit, that's why I went with the older one with completely refurbished/replaced systems...good as new at half the price Love her infinitely, 6'7 inch headroom in all the main below spaces, big sundeck, big protected cockpit... Then after that Amel made the 54, which is also the ketch aft stateroom, beautiful boats... they might still be making them. Anyway, that's my pitch

I love my Ketch which is a Bowman 49, English built but as you identify early, mine is 1981 but the craftmanship is outstanding and she has been very well maintained.

Irwin 52 is a good boat. I crewed on one just out of highschool for a retired Marine. I got paid enough to have fun and travel all over and when his family came I'd usually go backpacking someplace. It was a great experience before going back to school. Only problem was he caught me with his daughter lol. After that the boat felt really small but somehow I made it back to the harbor alive.
