Re: missing spreader end how do i find the right replacement

Who made the spar? Many yachts of that era were masted by La Fiel (sp?) or Sparcraft. I believe that both of those firms are still in business and could perhaps help source the spreader cap. Or, on second reading of your post, is it just the cap that is missing, or is it the whole tip?

If the shroud(s) are still stable on the end of the spreader, climbing the mast should be ok . If worried, take a halyard to the widest part of the beam as a back up.

Spreader end? Do you mean your spreader boot fell off? Pretty easy to come by, just search around for spreader boot, if some other part I can't help you.

Climbing a mast sounds dangerous, might be a better idea to use a bosun's chair. Do you have a friend that can help you?

That's pretty generic stuff for your boat. Take a photo of what you have on the other side and post it here. I'll bet someone can tell you where to find one. Look on eBay and craigslook and check the major boat supply catalogs. You'll find what you need.

I just noticed that you are in Washington. Bellingham has a sailboat wrecking yard with lots of rigging parts. Look at their craigslist ads.

It would be worth giving them a call just to see if they have some spreaders the same length as yours or that could be cut down to the same length.

Re: missing spreader end how do i find the right replacement

i also had to replace missing spreader caps on my csy 37. but i couldn't find spreader caps big enough - the spreaders on this boat are very wide.

so i made spreader tips out of pvc pipe caps. they're smooth and strong and don't 'wear out' in the sun. and cheap too....

Re: missing spreader end how do i find the right replacement

delancy hi yes i think it is the boot only this one is approximately 6 inches and it appears that the shroud wire would slide through it at least from the deck it appears that way i shall have pictures taken at the earliest opportunity and find out the manufacturer of the mast things i should have already done but i will find my sea legs and start planning ahead thank you all again Renn
