I'm familiar with the boat and in fact went to the
auction in New Hampshire when they went under, back in 1983 maybe? It was pretty clear why they went under... it looked like they had a
purchasing manager who bought enough
gear to build 20 boats when they only had 3 on the floor at the time they closed the doors.
Ted Brewer designs, they're generally pretty well built boats with good quality
gear. Like any 30 year old boat, they will have issues. A good friend here in my home harbor has had a Mariner 36' for years, and likes the boat very much. But he's now looking at rotten
deck core forward, and thinking about how he's going to fix that. His wife would like something a little bigger, for entertaining, but the boat has served them very well for coastal cruising, and is capable of more than that depending on how well cared for she is.
The listing you posted looks to me like a pretty good boat at a reasonable
price, but of course subject to
survey. And in this market you might get it for somewhat less.
