Re: Marina in Ensinada mexico

You have three choices. We'll, really only two. Docks are Baja Naval have a lot of surge and I personally would not leave a boat there long term.

The two other options are cruise port village. And marina Coral which is connected to a hotel about 3 miles north of town. It has resort amenities. Cruise port village is near the cruise ship terminal, a 10-min walk from the central part of Ensenada. Both are well protected marinas with concrete fingers, though only on one side of each slip (no finger between boats). Both are in the $12/foot range plus electricity.

I stayed at Baja Naval for a few months and mvweebles is exactly right about the surge, I'd stay away. Not only because it's annoying to be in (which it is) but because it can cause your vessel to break loose eventually (mine did). After that I stayed at Cruise Port Village which was more affordable than Marina Coral (plus I like being in the city). Cruise Port is a great marina, I'd recommend it.

Re: Marina in Ensinada mexico

Currently in Marina Coral Ensenada.. It's by far the best marina in northern Mexico with all the amenities of a high end hotel. Restaurants, bars, gym, playground, swimming pools indoor and out. Beautiful scenery and a very welcoming staff. If your tastes trend toward safe, secure and comfortable then go to the Coral. On the other hand, if you prefer to be in a marina with no amenities, a lot of pollution from constant cruise ship exhaust,,, but in the center of town choose Cruiseport. If you want to be at the boatyard with instant access to the malecon, and again with no amenities choose Baja Naval. I know all of these places very well as I have been here 3+ years. If you have a brand new Amel and can afford the Hotel Coral and Marina then I feel it is undoubtedly the choice for you. In the winter you will experience surge but it is manageable and Ensenada is a very friendly town.

Re: Marina in Ensinada mexico

For me, cost of marina Coral was not much more than Cruiseport. I just preferred Cruiseport due to location and frankly, I'm not a resort type of guy. Marina Coral was just a bit gringo for my tastes. Nice place, as is Cruiseport. One nice thing about Coral is Transpeninsular Brewery is next door. Decent beer, though Wendlandt downtown is a tad better for my tastes.

I had no issues with pollution from ships. Just a matter of preference.

Last November, 40-ft slip was right at $500/mo at Cruiseport. I checked at Coral and I believe it was around $550/mo so not a lot more. Both had room. Not sure about larger slips.

Re: Marina in Ensinada mexico

We spent a year in Cruisport and mostly enjoyed it greatly. Nice marina with a great staff. Our only complaint was due to the prevailing winds it can be very dirty at times with the cruise ship soot and dust from the boatyards. At one time a ship was loaded with what we thought was rusty scrap and everyone's masts, standing rigging, ropes, halyards, were coated with a thick layer of red dust on the one side which was very hard to remove. Local boat cleaners were very busy for quite some time. Only visited friends in Coral but always heard complaints of the surge there.
