MARAD Waiver for non-U.S. built boat 6-pack Charters

Has anyone had experience getting a non- U.S. Built boat through the MARAD hoop for a Charter Business? I have a Magellan 36 Ketch and an inland Masters License (with sail endorsement). I'm considering this boat to be a very nice one for running a business.

Yes. Just follow the instructions online. There is a waiting period for comments. They are looking for someone to say why you should not use the boat for charter. I don’t think anyone will pop up and stop you. I have done this before, it worked just fine.

Ok, thank you for your input. Was the USCG inspection (I think it's done by the DNR) any different that you're aware of?

I’m sure the same requirements stand for the COI. It’s probably a good idea to start contacting the CG officer now before you get in too deep.

They will tell you if the boat needs new safety gear or a complete tear down because it doesn’t meet regs.

It may not be economically feasible to convert it for charter in the USA. That’s the place to start so you don’t make an expensive mistake. The MARAD waiver is the least of the issues actually.
