Making an Offer: '80 Hunter 36

Its getting close to go-time on the liveaboard transition...

My house closes 2nd week of March, then its time for a boat.

My question is about how low is too low for an offer.

This is the boat:
1980 Hunter Sloop Sail Boat For Sale - www.yachtworld.com

They are asking $32k, I have been watching it for about 6 months...
How far off would I be in offering $25k?

On paying too much...

If you have been doing your homework then you should know the current value of the boat. By this I mean you should have looked at many similar boats and checked to see what they sell for, if they sell.

A search on Hunter, 36, cherubini and 1980/81 could bring up a few other boats for sale so you can compare asking prices.

There is at least one Hunter Owners Forum and I'd suggest a fair amount of time searching and also posting your questions there. The site seems to be set up for once you've brought a boat so a bit of diligence might be in order.

There is a Hunter Owners Group here on Cruisers Forum.

This is the stage at which you start line up your surveyor. Try to find one with extensive experience in older fibreglass boats and is not recommended by a broker, yard or marina. Maybe ask here.

I noticed that none of the photos showed the engine. I trust you've have a good look and listen.

And don't forget to keep a fair wack of cash ready for those inevitable initial (and ongoing!) expenses.
