Re: Macintosh 47
Looks a nice boat... but when you get her hauled, tell us if there are keel bolts or if the ballast is encapsulated. Seems to be a difference of opinion expressed in the posts upthread!

OK, I said bolt-on but I don't really know. I thought that by looking at the lines. However, in photo 55 of 68 where the very fine back edge of the keel is shown, I'd say it would be very hard to mold a hull with a hollow keel which could then be filled with lead.
So I'll stand on my guess.

The above is why the blind espousal of encapsulated keels conflicts with the realities of FRP construction. Kinda awkward to mold good shapes and retain structural strength.

Jim, the people who blindly espouse encapsulated keels don't care about "good shapes".

Yep, that's likely the case! At least where keel shape is concerned...

Re: Macintosh 47
This is in the description of the construction of the boat
KEEL
Shoal and deep draft keels are one-piece poured lead bolted to the hull with eleven one inch stainless steel bolts.
