M50 - Morgan 50
Hi all, just took ownership of a Charley Morgan/Catalina 50x14x7, sloop built Key Largo 1984. Wondering if there is anyone onboard here that has knowledge of this vessel, she seems a stout one for sure.

Re: M50
Hi Ddabs, well I bought my M50 in La Paz Mexico last December, after survey and a bit of tweeking we launched and day sailed around La Paz for a couple of months. Lots of upgrading, repairs (minor) and figuring systems out.
Unfortunatley I had to return to BC for herring and salmon fishing in Feb. as a result not a lot of sailing was done. What we did do showed me that she is fast, under genoa only hard on a 15kt breeze doing 7.3 kts, about 10 - 12 degrees of heel, comfortable and tracked like she was in a groove. Love the headroom in the galley 7'+ and 6+ elsewhere.
email me at peterthor@protonmail.com
if you cate to. Good Luck..

Re: M50
nice ship, like the radar mount its on my list. Your staysail head stay could you have a look and see how it is attached to the deck. I have a deck fitting right over the bulkhead between the fwd. head and storage locker but cannot see how it is attached to the bulkhead, hoping yours is the same as I want to put up an inner head stay for the sty'sl. Also your running backstays , are they. hooked up to the aluminum toerail? whats your draft I have 7'4'
I wonder how many more are afloat out there, lets keep in touch...best of luck on your "getting ready"
cheers Peter

Re: M50 - Morgan 50
Draft on mine is the same... just over 7'. The running backstays have attachments on the deck just forward of the big Lewmar 65 winches. As for the inner forestay... it comes down in the anchor locker and is bolted into what I believe is part of the bulkhead.

Re: M50 - Morgan 50
Getting the inside finally cleaned up and liveable... thought I'd take a few more photos for this little thread. Yes, that is a fish on a boat. Moved out of my house on land and couldn't bear to flush him down the toilet. We'll have to see what happens when we go out for a sail...

Re: M50 - Morgan 50
Hi DDabs,
Is your Morgan 50 the one that is for sale in Florida at this time?
Could you clear up a discrepancy: the listing states that her draft is 6 feet, but in one of the posts above you state that her draft is over 7 feet? Lead or iron? I suppose bolt on?
Ben.

Yes it is my boat that is for sale in St. Petersburg, FL. Draft is right at 7'. It is an encapsulated keel, no keel bolts.

Re: M50 - Morgan 50
Hi DDabs,
Thanks for your speedy reply, so I guess the draft in the listing is a mistake.
I am interested, could we get in touch (PM?) to discuss Amelie further?
Ben.
