LWL

Why would an Alden 46 and a 48 have different LWL? Both, in addition to the Alden 50, were made from the same mold. (The original design was for a 50, then the 46 and 48 were created by eliminating or shortening the aft deck.) I am looking at a Yachtworld listing saying that the 46 has a LWL of 37'8" and the 48 has a shorter LWL of 37'1". My first thought is that one of the listing agents is incorrect. Would there be another explanation?

Re: LWL

Odd. My immediate thought was that one has a greater displacement and therefore sits lower in the water hence greater LWL, but you say that the longer one has the shorter LWL, which seems counter-intuitive.....

My vote is for it being a mistake!

Re: LWL

It's an old boat. I'm sure you could search around and find a number of different LWL specd. Sailcalc says 37 for the 48/50. I'd take all the specs on YW as just a close estimate.

Re: LWL

Alden Designs lists many of the 50's as keel/centerboard with LWL 37'1", while the 46s are listed as LWL 38'8" with full keel. Many variations on the boat, plus take YW/broker as estimates.

37 Ft 1 Inch = 37.08 Ft.

The ALDEN 46, 48 and 50 are all derived from the same design. (Alden #1193), all with a LWL of 37' - 1" (37.08').
