Lost on this site!

Just to test your tolerance, I have another stupid Newbe question:

Attempting to not write this stupid question I looked far and wide on this site for boat reviews (I'm looking for a boat) and haven't found a way to search for a central place to read about what you folks say about this boat or that one.
Where might a (far from newbe sailor) find such a list?

Jake

Re: Lost on this site!

Which boat? There are quite a few search options. Let us know the boat and maybe we can help direct you or find threads for you. Otherwise it sounds like you may be referring to a website like bluewaterboats.org which has a pretty good collection of boats and reviews.

Re: Lost on this site!

A basic Bing search using the boat type & the word "review" always gets lots of hits for me. Then there's the option to search for owner's groups for any type & or model of boat in question (via Bing, or Google). Also, try searching; Cruising World, Sail, Sailing, Sailing World, Practical Sailor, Practical Boat Owner, Yachting, Yachting World, YBW.com & a host of other magazines in Europe. As most periodicals have loads of free boat reviews that you can peruse. Both original reviews, & ones done years or decades later, like Cruising World's "Classic Plastic" column.

Then of course, there's the option of searching this site using a bunch of different methods. Either via one of the drop down menus courtesy of the blue tool bar near the top of the screen, & or via Bing, Google, etc.

And if you get stuck, just ask about a specific boat or boats, by way of starting a thread.

Oh, & since search engines like Bing & Google auto-tune their search results for individual users, sometimes it helps to clear your browsing, & search histories to see if you can glean some differeing results. Either that or try using a different computer, in a different locale.

Re: Lost on this site!

Wow!
I wasn't expecting such informative answers and so soon!

Thank you

The boat I'm currently looking for is the Morgan 41 Classic (Catalina) Not the OI's.

I've perused and been on a number of them and the only outpoint of significance I can find (for me) is the lack of ability to go to wind. However my main question here is regarding the Catalina versions that came along in the late 80's - are they truly better at beating or?

I am looking for a boat from 38 - 42 CC with a center line berth preferably but not a must if there is a pullman of adequate shape and size with another berth easily accessible as well. There are several other deal breaker qualifications but I won't bore you with those for now. (The 42 Endeavour for example looks good to me but there aren't any around my neck of the woods)
Thanx in advance

Re: Lost on this site!

What price range are you looking at, what are your ambitions for the boat, & what's your experience level?

Here's but one of many reviews of the Morgan 41' Morgan 41 - Used Boat Test: - Practical Sailor Print Edition Article

If a particular boat takes your fancy look for an owners cite for that brand and model. Just bare in mind many people think what they own is the best thing since sliced bread. You can probably weed them out by the verbiage.

Yes, they are pretty biased, but as you said one can read between the lines so to speak to glean some good data, thanx.
