Re: Looking for new homebase - Florida towns for a new family

Where is better for draft restricted vessels? Both standard draft, & air draft (bridges).

Obviously that would depend on the draft, but as a gross generalization, I would say that the east coast is more draft-friendly than the west coast.

Re: Looking for new homebase - Florida towns for a new family

If you pick Jax and in a year or two you do not like it move to Tampa. If that does not work move to Tarpon Springs. From there try Daytona.

Picking a place is Florida is not easy. I was a snowbird before moving here. Loved the Crystal River area for kayaking and swimming in the cool fresh water springs. Lots of really shallow water in the Gulf from Tarpon Springs north to at least Cedar Key.

But when it came to living here I picked the Atlantic side. So far, I really like it.

Oh, both the Atlantic and the Gulf get cold in the winter months. Even in the Keys the water is very chilly.

+1 for Stuart. A cute little coastal town. We live close by and love it. It reminds us of back home in nc. I would compare it to the small coastal towns in nc. Don't find that much in Florida. You wouldn't be dissapoimted.
