Re: Liveaboard Wanted - Australia 40-44Ft

Hi My name is Ken Rickards. I have a 45 ft Adams Radford for sale in Townsville. I'm down to 80 k. We spent 5 years sailing through Asia and Pacific islands. I spent 7 months single handed from new Ireland New Guinea down to new Calodonia because my partner had some glaucoma problems. She is 6mm aluminium hull and 4mm decks. Went through all of Philippine and raja ampit. Check blog on sailingwatusi@blogspot.com .She needs some work but I wouldn't hesitate to jump on her and head to lizard island of something. We look like doing the grey nomads thing as my partner is a land lover now. Give me a call on 0407937335 if you want. Ken

Re: Liveaboard Wanted - Australia 40-44Ft

Buying a boat now might be a bit tricky. Some poor bugger from Melbourne bought the boat in front of mine four months ago and can’t collect it due to border closures.

Must be very frustrating for the new owner.

Re: Liveaboard Wanted - Australia 40-44Ft

Everywhere I've stored my boat the marinas have had boats with unpaid storage bills. In the US, there is a process where they can auction these boats off to pay off the storage bills. I've been amazed at how many great quality boats go through this process and sell for ten cents on the dollar. In some cases the boats appeared ready for commissioning, in others you would part them out.

You do need to be risk tolerant with this type of purchase, in that you will need to survey and discover the good and the bad before bidding. Fair market value is not a consideration with these auction boats. The yard is just trying to clear up some space at get the boat out of the yard. I've seen boats go for a dollar.

Once bought though, you need to move it out or fix it and start paying storage.
