Lavranos 40

We had a look at a Lavranos 40 and quite liked it but my question is what are they like to sail ? We are currently in a Lotus 10.6 so it's a hell of lot heavier boat. So does anyone out there have any experience in one ?

Not on a Lavranos 40, but a 48. Trashed sails, too, and still moved lovely in smooth water on it's test sail. I was actually quite impressed. And a friend owns the boat. The boats have a good reputation amongst South African sailors. Sorry, not specific to the 40.

I don't know the boat but Lavranos is a talented designer. He has designed some of the earlier Deerfoot boats for Steve Dashew, who speaks highly of Lavranos and recommends him.

Re: Lavranos 40

I own one since 2 years now and I ve been quite happy so far. done about 1800 miles with her. She needs 10+kts wind to be confortable. I sail her upwind 45 degrees off the wind, 6 knots average. She can plane downwind.
This boat is originally a bit heavy because of all the woodwork, but if you dont overload her she ll sail nice and smooth. She ll be alright also in 40+knts wind and 15+feet waves, very strongly build.
