Regardless if "Bash" is long gone, I'd like to add my two bits to this conversation.
In 2001,my wife purchased a Langer 39' center-cockpit sailboat for me in 2001, 2001-2003, it was upgraded with
radar and other
electronics for a transoceanic
cruise to
Hawaii.
From 2001-2003 I took the
boat further and further to sea, 100 then 200, followed by a 300-mile trip to check the seaworthiness of the
hull and the
boat itself.
In 2003 with my crew of six, we departed for
Hawaii, arriving at Lahina after less than three weeks and then ending up in Honolulu a week later.
We later sailed the boat south, following the chain of islands to
Tahiti. We kept the boat there for the rest of 2003. We returned in 2004 to return the boat to
San Francisco.
The boat is underrated for seaworthiness. In 2004, I added two motorized winches to handle the
mainsail and the
jib.
I kept the boat until 2018, when I gave it to a friend. He restored it to like new and
sold it a few months later. I enjoyed 15 years on the
Lancer and made four cruises to Hawaii and two to
Tahiti.
