Just got back to my boat after 4 weeks away

Turned saloon lights on, very dull. I thought oh no batteries are flat. Checked conection to mains power, all good. Tried the lights again and they were fine. This has never happened before, could it be that the wiring just needed to warm up a bit?

Hi Harro,
I hope its not the cables warming up as that is a problem in itself . Based on the amount of information you supplied there could be one or several problems. Can you advise if you checked the voltage with a meter at any point and what the results were. How old are the batteries. Have you checked the batteries themselves by load testing. A voltage test across battery terminals will not give a true indication of there health.
The issue could be batteries, bad connections the light circuit itself or other issues so knowing as much information as possible will assist in identifying where the problem may lie.

LED or incandescent? AC or DC?

Assuming the latter answer to both, I'd be looking for a bad ground, starting at the battery terminal. Next would be a loose connection anywhere in the lighting circuit. Less likely but possible would be internal to the switch itself.
