Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 49

Anyone have any experience with these sailboats? I've just been offered a delivery job, on a difficult route. Any opinions would be gratefully received.

Steve.

Motley, I worked as a service tech for the Jeanneau Dealer in Kemah Texas and spent a lot of time on the boats. I am also a long time sailor and cruiser. I am very impressed with the newer boats, you did not say what year it was. And of course a "difficult route" can mean a lot of things. So it is hard to answer your question based on the little to no information you have provided. Chuck

Good boat, I took one across the English Channel in a gale...Anywhere in the Caribbean it is a very adequate boat.
However, who is the delivery company. There is a UK company that had less than a stallar reputation.
IM for details of the UK company.

Actually, I am the delivery company. A prestigious outfit called "Cartagena Yacht Services"; a major player in the maritime industry, CYS boasts a huge, highly qualified staff of errrr, me!

What kind of information do you need? My wife and I just completed sailing from Seattle to Mexico then across to French Poly then through Tong and resting in New Zealand for a couple months chilled out. We returned to Fiji then to "Vanewatu then to New Cal then ending in Australia for another 9 months, just the two of us and the trip was just
great 1

According to this link Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 49 Performance Sailboat Review | Cruising World

there are 63 gallons of fuel on the standard model. Also some comments about hand holds and aft storage locker securing. So it would depend on your route, time of year, etc.

Really no need to equip a boat with that amount of fuel from the get go, with a 75 hp engine.

At 28K lbs, should make fast time with 1100 sq feet of sail.

Re: Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 49

I sailed across the Aegean in Greece in a SO 32 during the Meltemi Winds. Sustained daily winds of 40 knots with 14-18 ft sea state. Got knocked down in the channel between Tinos and Mikonos and had the jib taking wave water. The boat was stellar!! Never even heard a creek or crick. In fact when we were heading north we were really taking a pounding due to the fetch. The boat was very strong. It was just my wife and I on the boat. Good luck.
