Jeanneau 57

Hi All,

Just bought a 2011 jeanneau 57. Its quite a jump and a change from my first 47.7, as it is quite a "complicated" boat.
i have some questions, specific to this model, Which i would like to ask those of you familiar with these boats. Mostly questions about motors, replacements, valves location, etc. anyone willing to lend a hand?

thank you, Pier Luca

I have had a 2011 Jeanneau 57 since new and might be able to help. Another site you might want to visit, or join is the Jeanneau Owners forum

Re: Jeanneau 57

Hi Zanshin (which i suppose is the name of the boat ),

Thank you for getting back to me!!! Im new at "jeanneau" but i have many years of sailing experiance on my beneteau forst 47.7 - a completely different boat. I changed, as with time passing by and more time spent on the boat i needed something more comfortable - and the j57 fits the bill.

a quick question.
my draining rack next to the sink is blocked. i assume therefore that it does not share the same drain as the sink, as that works well (which i found strange). Is there a ball valve specifically for it? and if so where is it?

i looked at that treasure trove of manuals on your website - thank you!! but i could not find one that describes where the ball valves for all the through hulls are...
also - i need to change the bearings of the rudder. Where do you buy spares for this boat from? is it directly from jeanneau or are there distributors you rely on?

the boat at the moment is near Genova, north west italy, so i need to find people around that area.

Im also going to change the engine to a yanmar 150 mechanical... but that's a different story...

Re: Jeanneau 57

Hello Pdemajo,

I think that the sink drying rack drain goes into a bundle and into the bilge. I use that space to store my dishwashing soap and brushes/rags so I've never had to test it. There isn't going to be a valve since it doesn't drain overboard. The sink drains straight down, so even if it does get clogged it is easy to fix.

I had a warranty issue with the rudder bearing and got the parts directly from Jeanneau France that time. The manuals do contain the draining system, and each through-hull has a valve.

I'm interested in the engine replacement - particularly the technical difficulties and costs...

Thank you for that. I will try to unblock it somehow

Regarding the engine, i am choosing the Yanmar LP 4.140 TIC which is essentially a mechanical engine as i do not want to rely on sensors too much. The cost of the engine is of 20,376 euros + VAT which in italy is of 22%
according to the mechanic it will fit perfectly as it is somehow slightly smaller. i will have to modify mountings and exhaust connection but for the rest it should be fine. once I have a full understanding of the installation costs i will let you know.

if you have a moment... could you point me to the manual which has the valves and draining rack info?

Water / Bilge / Engine Schematics

And it looks like the drip tray does drain to the sinks...

My dad's 57 has the VW engine. It's had a series of faults and trouble codes, it also needs a battery to operate. I'm partial to diesels that are fully mechanical. I've never had a problem with a yanmar that wasn't because of bad fuel.

Another 57 owner here. Information on the JY57 rudder setup is here:
https://jeanneau.proboards.com/threa...neau-yachts-57 Parts come from Jeanneau direct, you'll need a Jeanneau dealer to order them for you.

In my boat (2015) the draining rack is plumbed into the sink drain under the kitchen floor. Form right to left, engine intake, generator intake, sink drain.

Re: Jeanneau 57

Just saw it.... unfortunately the kitchen sink is open and works well...which means that the draining rack is blocked somewhere along the line...

with regards to the engine, its not as easy as i thought to find a mechanical yanmar. they dont make them any more and there arent any stocks that i could find.... now im trying to find one to recondition.... if anyone has any leads please pass them on!

Re: Jeanneau 57

What is your issue with the VW/Mercruiser engine? Apart from the marine cooling/exhaust and a modified ECU chip, it is identical to the VW Jetta car engine.

i need to replace the cooling, the turbo, alternators, some piston heads, etc... the bill would come more than 50% of a new one and it has 2900 hours...

Re: Jeanneau 57

also... does any one know:

1) where the switch for the Barnegat light on the cockpit table is

2) the water pressure pump goes on and off at long intervals. is this connected to the fact that the water in the showers cycles from very hot to cold constantly?

BTW... i found the problem with the draining sink problem....the last 20cm of the pipe near the ball valve is completely blocked.... so today ill remove it and clean it. Thank you all for you help!!!

Re: Jeanneau 57

- The switch is located in the wooden box on the aft part of the table, hidden from view in the top right section.

- The cycling is most likely due to the pressure accumulator either requiring a bit of pressure (you can use a bicycle Schrader pump for that) or requiring replacement due to failure of the rubber bladder.

- Perhaps the hot-cold issue is related to the accumulator, but I don't know how; there's only one pressure for both the hot and the cold water so both should be affected equally by any problems.
