Jabsco Toilet Issues

Hi all,

Jabsco Manual toilet won't pump out. No pressure at all. There is no resistance on the pump. Is this likely a blockage or a pump assembly issue? I feel like if it was a blockage there would be resistance right?

Thank you,

Will

The o-ring that goes around the inside of the plunger/piston thing that attaches to the pump handle might be worn out or broken. Its pretty easy to remove and inspect.

Teh "flapper valve" has, in my experience, been the most frequent cause for this to happen. Just 4 screws to remove and you can see if it is blocked, corroded or otherwise INOP. And fortunately, the replacement isn't too expensive, either.

If there were a blockage, you'd get tremendous amounts of resistance. The Joker valve would not cause the pump to neither be able to draw nor push fluids. IF the resistance is low and there is no fluids moving, the seal on the hand pump has failed.

This is a common failure. They sell rebuild kits and entire pump replacements. For the insignificant difference in price, I'd replace the entire pump assembly. It's significantly less time and labor. Certainly replace the joker valve since the system is already open.

No sense trying to "repair" a Jabsco. A replacement pump for yer garden variety manual Jabsco, complete, is about a hunnert'n'fifty bux Canadian. It's held in place by four little bolts, and there are three little hose clamps to deal with.

Ten minutes, tops, in out and in, and you'll be good for about another five years. These things are to be considered disposables, IMO :-)

There's a great YouTube video that shows someone taking apart a Jabsco manual pump. He never says a word and you only ever see his hands but the tips are there for each step of the process. I had all the parts already from the previous owner. That said, TrentePieds is right. Just get a replacement. That's what I did after more trouble two years later with the "fixed" one.

Re: Jabsco Toilet Issues

I got fed up of fixing my Jabsco head every couple of years. For the price of the few replacement pumps I put in over the years I bought a Raritan PH Super Flush. I've only got 1 season on it so far so good.
