Island Trader 41 - Thoughts?

After a couple years of saving, I am just starting to casually look at boats, and came across this post on yachtworld:

https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/197.../United-States

I've done some reading on this and the other related models in the "Leaky Teaky" center cockpit ketches out there. It seems like there is a lot to love - sturdy, heavy displacement, lots of storage, options in the rig, pure beauty... And there are also a handful of common issues - the trademark leaky teak decks, concern with rotting wood masts and cabin sides, chainplates, and bowsprit integrity.

I've exchanged emails with the seller, and it sounds like the deck and cabin sides are the biggest concerns on this one - original deck still on there, and he couldn't tell me much about the integrity of the cabin... The masts have already been replaced with aluminum, and seller reports no signs of fatigue or wear in the chainplates or bowsprit. My take is that $45k is a little high if I'm going to have to replace the decks in a year, but I would love some more expert advice. Current owners or others who have considered these boats - Am I missing something? Am I thinking about it the right way? Should I be highly worried about the decks? Is it worth going out to look at this thing in person? Any and all thoughts welcome.

Re: Island Trader 41 - Thoughts?

island trader may well have fg cabin house molds. formosa and ct didnot..ct does after 1980.

as with formosa light airs can be more challenging, but you are able to go sailing when the plastic fantastic performance production sailboats are running in to hide from wind. designed to sail trade winds. what can be bad?
45000 is a good start price for a perfect example of these. i would start by offering 30 or 35 k and go from there. best o luck.
