Island Packet 35 vs. 38

Hi!
Greetings from Finland!

Finally I noticed there are 7-8 IP's for sale here in Europe.
We are couple over 60' and interested in models 35 and 38.
Mainly we would cruise here in Baltic Sea are but maybe someday our dream will come true, and we'll start our voyage to Med (Sicily, Croatia, Greece).

Some questions:
Is there any other known "IP issues" than chain plates?

How wide are beds - in 38 there seems to be pullman bed in fore peak - is it wide enough for two adults.

Pros and cons, main differences between these two models?
I think performance with these two are in same level?

best regards,
J & H

The 35 is a fantastic design in my opinion. Huge galley. Nice forward and rear birth. The 32 was a great design as well. Steering setup is a bit strange. Besides the chain plates you should look at the tanks on these boats.

The water and fuel tanks are made of aluminum and buried under the cabin sole and liner. It is a major job to replace them. I’d recommend scoping them with a camera to make sure there is not corrosion or sediment buildup.

Re: Island Packet 35 vs. 38

I helped solve a rudder issue on a 35.

It was a big hassle due to how the boat was put together by the builder. Or maybe just a bad day by the designer.

Otherwise the boat was pretty great. A bit too heavy and not a racer at all. But very very comfortable and I think quality lamination, gelcoat, mast, deck hardware, etc.etc.

Pretty too. This counts.
