Island 17 Boomgvang

I just purchased an Island 17 sailboat (1977), however the boomvang lines were not present, only the pulleys. Having searched the web I have found no photos or data, so here I am.

The strange thing is, is that the boom has a single large pulley assembly with what appears to be a large pin/roller (3/8" dia) set between the pulley and the attachment point at the boom. The bottom of the mast has the expected double pulley, but also attached at the free end of the pulleys is what appears to be a bracket where I could insert a pin and tie a line to the assembly. I can see where this would work if the boom had a double pulley.

Both assemblies are riveted, in place which make me think it might be original, however this does not rule out the possibility that this could be a non-standard modification.

Does anyone have any ideas as how to make this arrangement work? Your thoughts and ideas are much appreciated.
