Isla Mujeres to the Bahamas

HI all,

I need to sail from Isla Mujeres to Nova Scotia via the bahamas and bermuda. My trip has been delayed due to a staph infection I received while sailing from honduras to Jamaica. I am now going to catch the gulf stream and head north of cuba. I am hoping to leave no later then the first week of May. I am now a little concerned with my timing with regards to hurricane season. Has anyone done this trip, especially the mexcio to bahamas leg? How much time should I allow for this leg? what should I expect from the prevailing winds? an esterly would make this trip a little tough, a southeasterly would be perfect.

any words of advice or caution would be appreciated.

cheers,
hank

Re: Isla Mujeres to the Bahamas

I went Isla Mujeres to Maine. Not with the Bahamas stop. You might do well to get professional weather help--it is not that expensive to have them nail a window for you although you need to be prepared for anything and the weather people do not always understand the Gulf Stream for some reason when they are routing you (at least they put me in a back eddy for a day or so then told me they don't know much about currents). The weather stuff forms way out and it is, for me, beyond my ability to interpret the charts you can download. Would be a lot faster without the Bahamas stop, but you must have your reasons.
