It's really Russian taxpayers money as Mr. Melnichenko was among the folks who made his fortune by the transference of state owned assets to friends and supporters of the regime in the 90's, and by keeping favour with Putin. You don't Putin built the largest house in the world outside of Sochi on his 150k salary did you?
And that is ugly. Ick.

Re: Insane huge sailboat built by Russian billionaire
Traveling in the last few years, at least in the parts of Europe I know, Russians have now replaced (whoever you used to dislike) as the loud, obnoxious, more money than taste, people that you try to avoid.
It all goes around. They'll eventually calm down and someone else will take over.

Re: Insane huge sailboat built by Russian billionaire
Did a quick 'Sailing Yacht A' google image search, to no avail. Has anyone seen an actual photograph?
Seems odd that nothing came up immediately...
And 'insane' seems the wrong adjective...maybe ridiculous is more accurate?

Something has to be the biggest. Not too pretty at all, in my eye.

Re: Insane huge sailboat built by Russian billionaire
Inspiration comes in many forms:
Biggest
Fastest
Largest
Most expensive interior
Most technically advanced
Most efficient
Most controversial etc...etc.
My point is that these Alpha multi billionaires are spending their money in copious amounts to support and advance the marine industry and could care less what we in the peanut gallery think about their taste or right to pay for such a high profile floating home.
Don't kid yourself.... They are realizing their pipe dream and pinching themselves just as we would IF we managed to afford to build our personal dream boat......
I applaud those who can afford to inspire yacht Builders to reach new extremes.
