If you are selling a boat......

I found a new profession. All I need is a supply of naïve cash buyers and a source of cheap anchors. It probably did happen and is unfortunate.

Meanwhile I'm on the other side of this. We're trying to buy our first sailboat as a family and I'd say about half to 3/4 of the folks just don't even reply. I've tried calling and emailing. I feel that for "lower priced" boats the "buyers broker" just isn't worth it, cause I don't think they'll really want to bust their bum for 1500-3000$ commission like they would for someone buying the 200-400k boat.
Some of the brokers/owners have basically just blown me off, (including one not showing up while I stood around like a lost puppy at a marina) That one I ended up seeing a MUCH nicer boat, and am still going back and forth with the wife if we can afford to just go all in and realize we're spending our personalizing/updating budget on the boat as well as maybe having to sell a kidney. (I still want to buy it... but she's the practical one)

I've also gotten some of the weirdest schemes with how to buy some of these boats, and "rent it from us for 2 years" then pay the remainder... Which I just don't understand.

TLDR: Yes there are scammers, yes sometimes people are just insane, and yes, everyone is going crazy from being locked up for Covid.

Bought my first boat, a Jaguar 27, as a complete novice. Spent time love and money making her perfect. I cared for her, she taught me how to sail. This was a love affair, she was part of the family. Then it came time to sell. I wanted the new owner to have the same relationship as I had and was prepared to give her away to the right person. Ended up selling for a lot less than market price but to the right person knowing she will be cared for for in her old age. Still follow her on Youtube. I have had many boats since and much larger ones and now have a modern 46 footer floating apartment on the med. However, the relationship is different and feels more like a holiday home than a passion. My wife thinks I am mad.

She's likely right, for we're all mad... else we wouldn't be spending these hours on CF and years on our boats.
