Id numbers on a Cheoy Lee in Australia

Hi, we are looking at a Cheoy Lee 43 Motorsailor in Australia and cannot work out where to find any identifying numbers. On the starboard quarter is a metal label marked "Waterways" with a long serial starting with AU-WW.... Is this some state id number? I tried to find the H.I.N. number but couldn't. Can anyone help, very confused

The waterways number is your HIN. Somewhere in that number it should have letters marking which state the HIN was issued in. I thing in Queensland it was the third last letter that was a "Q". Cheoy Lees had a oval shaped brass plaque mounted inside the cabin but a lot of original owners souvenired these plates, so most of them are missing. It usual had a four digit number stamped onto it but that was only a Cheoy Lee yard number.

Hi Thackaringa, thanks for your help! The third to last number on this one is a C.
The full number is AU-WWA009456 CJ6 so not sure what "C" stands for. Do you know of any way I can look this up? I have googled til I'm blue in the face but can't make any sense of it

I know that when I once registered one of my previous boats the registration office gave me a document that explained what each letter and number meant. I'm sure the transport department could help you. I notice that in the numbers that you show there is a WA. Maybe that is Western Australia. Because registration is a state concern they all insist on having their own way of doing it and like to be different. If you google WA registration office or what ever they call themselves over there, you may find something. Best of luck with it.
