The Heritage 35 was designed by McCurdy and Rhodes. The molds were purchesed by Cape Dory and used to produce their Intrepid 35. The Intrepid 9M was designed by Jim Kyle/Rolf Van Der Sleen and started life as the Grampian 28 before they went out of business and the molds were purchased by Cape Dory.
As far as a fin keel design being "superior" to a full keel design

They are really nice boats - not really a fin keel like a newer design - I would call it a full fin keel - Its a very heavy boat. It will give you all the comfort and directional ability of the full keel but with out the liabilities. I mean - look at that capsize ratio. I sure will turn a lot better. Too bad they did not make very many...when they do turn up they don't last very long...
