Hinterhoeller Nonsuch Reviews?

I'm considering trading in my 30' Hunter for a smaller Hinterhoeller Nonsuch - either a 22' or 26'. Does anyone have an opinion (good or bad) about either of these? Thanks. Bill

Re: Hinterhoeller Nonsuch Reviews?

My experience is with a Nonsuch 30 Classic although I have sailed both 22 and 26. I think they are terrific boats for the kind of sailing that most people do. The 22 footers seem to command quite high prices, I guess because they do what do they very well. The 26 offers more bang for the buck. Make sure your surveyor has familiarity with the type of mast used.

AiniA - thanks for the info. I heard that there were issues with the mast on older models back in the 80's. I'll have the surveyor check it out. Bill

Re: Hinterhoeller Nonsuch Reviews?

There are two mast issues, one older, one newer. When the boats first came out (the 30s) they drilled a hole through the mast collar and mast to stop the mast from bouncing when you went off a wave. This weakened the masts at a critical point and a couple of masts broke at the two holes. Hinterhoeller went around and replaced the lower sections of all of the masts under warranty. No idea if they got all the masts but Hinterhoeller are no longer around so if the holes are there run away. More recently there have been some issues with movement where the the upper and lower mast sections joined. This is the one to look for.
