Neals:
Good one, no transom/counter slapping, mark one for DE'ers.
As for exhaust stains on the ster, no, DE's can also have sooty fannies.
"Less hull to wax", Ok I'll give you that one.
That's two for DE's.

Bill,
Buy it already - that is one beautiful boat.

Back in the early 80's, while in my college library, I would read sailing magazines when I should have been studying. I fell in love with HC's back then, and the attraction has never subsided. Friends of ours have an HC38, and she is a thing of beauty for sure. Many boats function just as well for sure. That's not the point.

One down side of the DE's is painting the name and home port.......she is Arctic Lady from Juneau Alaska, but is often called Arctic Juneau or Lady Alaska.....Next time I go out it gets painted on both rear quarters.
I'm also starting to look at my stern to boarding ramp....that'll be more challenging.

Aloha Bill,
What part of Kentucky? I have or have had relatives in Owensboro and Lexington.

Another disadvantage - The first thing you learn on a boat is that the pointy end goes in front...

Another point not brought up about Hans Christians is the cockpit. If you can find a less comfortable cockpit let me know. The trouble with the HC's is they look great at first glance but, the cockpit is diabolical remember how many hours you will end up sitting in it + with a canoe stern you also limit the size above and below. I would go to the boat and sit in the cockpit for at least an hour then see if your as excited about the boat. Just another opinion but originally I also liked them and a boat broker friend explaned the down side and I now fully agree
