I removed the trans and motor from my
Cheoy Lee a couple years ago. I have a
Perkins 4108 with the Borg Warner trans. I raised the motor off the mounts on a 2 x 12. It only required separating the trans about 3" from the motor to remove it. If you have that much room in the engine compartment you might be able to get it out without completely removing the engine.
I was able to
lift the trans out on my own, but I'm a fairly stout guy, better to
lift it with two people. You buy the
beer.
Mine was put together in 1987 and so didn't want to come apart. But pb blaster and a few days of soaking and persuading got it to separate with no damage.
