Help me spend money!
I do not post, and I have searched,...here is my question....looking for a liveaboard that will sail to the caribbean, and south america, (hopefully circumnavigate someday)....now I want it to be in the @42-55 foot range, it will be used as a liveaboard when not sailing....i have $150K for boat purchase,(this does not include refit and maintenance)....i want the comforts of home,.. AC being important, roomy....needs to have two cabins, and an office space... please i do not need input on a 32 footer, or why I should buy this or that, I want those with experience in this range of boat to tell me pros and cons of their boats and what they would recommend...Thank you for your help....

Re: Help me spend money!
The standard answer is Island Packet 42, Caliber 40 LRC, Hylas 46, Tartan 3700, Valiant 42, Tayana 42. These and probably others are considered boats to travel the globe.
Now the production boats offer a lot of comfort and have lines they advertise to go anywhere. But I would never pick a production boat (Beneteau for example) over an Island Packet to travel the globe.

I, on the other hand did pick the Beneteau over the option of the Island Packet. I like to sail well and found the one I have to besomewhat better in this regard.

Re: Help me spend money!
nortonscove - have you done a circumnavigation in your Beneteau? If so, cool.
And FYI - I was using the Bene just as an example.
I guess the question would be for 150k you could buy an Island Packet or a newer larger Catalina, Hunter, Beneteau.

If you're looking for "all the comforts of home", I expect that you will be in the 50+ footers. Under fifty will be tough to find the room for it all (office etc).
And if you are looking with a budget of $150k -you'll be looking at older boats where you should be prepared to invest in heavy maintenance.
But deals are out there, albeit ffew and far between.
I happen to know of a 51 foot Jeanneau Sun Odyssey that is circumnavigating right now. Left Denmark 3 years ago and are somewhere in the south pacific right now. So don't say production boats can't do it. Lot's of them do
We're starting our circumnavigation next spring on a 40 foot Jeanneau

Re: Help me spend money!
carstenb makes a good point. You can never have all the "comforts of home" without a mega yacht.
In my home I have unlimited water, hot water, unlimited electricity, full size washer/dryer, insulated walls, natual gas heat, A/C, unlimited sewage, huge TV, tons and tons of storage in basement and garage.
You need 5 million and still would have a few sacrifices.
Boats are not insulated, not even insulated against water. That will be a major sacrifice. I agree with the previous poster that you need to look at 50' plus boats to get enough room and there will still be sacrifices.

There are a few boats, Pacific Seacraft for one, that will build a cored hull for insulation against the colder climates.

Re: Help me spend money!
In this price range I have only seen 1 or 2 boats that would fit the criteria. One would be an Island Packet 44, not the fastest boat out there.
