Re: Help Identifying this 36 ft. sailboat hull and deck

I believe the way the prop aperture and the rudder is hung may be the tell tale.

Re: Help Identifying this 36 ft. sailboat hull and deck

Below are the few pictures of a Nassau 34 that I have seen. There is one currently for private sale on Vancouver Island that I looked at. But the maintenance had gotten away from the owner and his attempt at sanding the brightwork left it with more work than I was looking for. Only around 40 built I believe, there is a FB page for owners. One thing I did discover is they laid the gel coat too thick which resulted in cracking all over the boat and was very apparent from the one I looked at. It looks very similar with the exception of the cut out for the sprit but that may have been done after it was pulled form the forms? IMO its a pretty close match

It reminds me of a Cape George cutter I saw a very long time ago, that was purchased as a hull and deck. This is really a WAG, not an informed one.

I'm not aware of any Cape George's with canoe sterns. Had some nice chats with Cecil Lange though. Nice workshop, to understate things

There is a crack down the middle seam. It doesn't appear to be structural …. just through the gel coat.
I believe we are looking at a Slocum 37.

I am pretty certain we are looking at a Slocum 37. Stan Huntingford's "upgraded" Rafiki 37. Pretty exciting!

Now the BIG decision. Build her? or sell her. I'm not sure I have the time to do this. Thinking cap is on.

Except the stern is totally different and lacking a built in locker. The pictures show the cockpit isn't a true T shape but more open and goes all the way to the sole. The cap rail drops at the very aft flush to the deck. It also appears there is a hole with a plug at the bow. If a tape was strung from bow to stern over the cabin it could account for the additional length.

Re: Help Identifying this 36 ft. sailboat hull and deck

The hole at the bow looks to me , to be for a bowsprit. If you look carefully at the picture of the Slocum … the back of the cockpit could easily be built of teak or teak faced ply.
That , and the serial number kind of seal's the deal for me.
I will see if there is a way to contact Slocum at all as well.

It may just be the separation seam from a 2 piece mold. Looks like a nice project! Now all you need is 3 years of every weekend and many nights... and about $100k!

Re: Help Identifying this 36 ft. sailboat hull and deck

I own a Nassau 34, the stern and how the bowspite is attached is exactly how my boat is . Not ,many boats have the Oval thru the bulwark bowspite attachment. Also the cockpit layout with the rigid running along the back is exactly like a Nassau 34! Their great boats extremely well made, thick, as I have added and moved thru hulls so I know the hull and deck is thick.

It also has an internal keel, molded into the hull. Any questions or other photos to prove it let me know.

Re: Help Identifying this 36 ft. sailboat hull and deck

Ya the slocum 37 doesn't have a bowsprit. Nassau has one that goes through and under the caprail at the bow.
Life aboard in the NE And the work continues!

Back of the Slocum is fibreglass. Look at the links on post #17 you can see the molded ledger that accepts the teak seat. The base around the mast to accept teak decking on each side with raised centre for the mast base.

Here's a look at the engine acces via the cockpit

More of the cockpit and the aft caprail

As Cadence mentioned take a look at the drive shaft and prop aperture, offset companionway, and the flat portion under the sprit at the bow matches almost perfectly, Life aboard in the NE And the work continues!

The outboard chine that matches the bulwark, even the stern has a more rounded shape than the Slocum.
