Why by a wreck when you can by an excellent boat that someone already spent a bunch of money and time in.
There are just too many hidden risks like chainplates and others already mentioned.
Insurance companies know their business. If it is totaled and cheap, and tou are not boat rebuilder by trade, don’t walk, run!

YEP - I just spent 65k over 3 years to fix up a 34 YO sailboat which I bought for 69k --
health went bad and I
sold it for 84k which means
lost 50k and that's not counting
dock and travel costs......plus there is still
work to be done on the boaty-------I bought it because I liked the design and it had a recent re-engine and
generator......most problems were due to age and neglect---- so don't buy a complex boat more than 15years old.
