HELP!

I can't get the pin back in. Forestay is way too tight and backstay is maxed out.

Re: HELP!

Ive had to deal with this on another boat. Two person job: one to weight down the forestay and the other to pin it.

Re: HELP!

Use the jib halyard. Attach to something secure forward, and crank on the winch until you have enough slack.

Re: HELP!

Use a longer toggle since I presume you have made the forstay shorter and don´t have a turnbuckle in there. Or take a soft wrapping around the foil and winch the forstay down. But I think you could use a longer toggle or sidefastners anyway.

Re: HELP!

I guess it was OK before you disconnected. I have found that this problem was always caused by a shackle or stay wire not in correct alignment. Look up high and check that everything is nicely aligned. It has to be exactly right. Do this and if its all perfect, do the halyard tensioning.

Remember that if it's twisted up the top, It's sure to untwist just when you don't want it to.

Re: HELP!

I tried ratchet straps using the halyard connected to a dock cleat and couldnt get it tight enough.

Im afraid I might break the rivet on the halyard, but I may try and electric winch tomorrow. If this thing slips out while Im messing with it, will the mast fall?

Re: HELP!

I dont think it will fall but lets not find out, before you leave the boat attach your Jib halyard to a forward cleat on the deck, not the dock, all you are doing with the dock cleat is moving the boat. Once the line is cleated use your mast halyard winch to tighten, that should put some slack in the stay.

Re: HELP!

Funny. You tell people how to do it, and they do something different. And don't succeed.

Re: HELP!

Ttying to get ahold of a ladder to reach the backstay turnbuckle will keep you all posted.

FYI its not that I didn't listen to some of you...i had already tried several things before posting.

Tried tying halyard to dock cleat, then tried tying it to deck cleat(ripped it out, have to fix now, tried tying to shackle near the roller(bound up in roller and actually increased tension, tried tying to toe rails(halyard crosses over forestay at tjis angle and increased tension)
Tried looping rope thru the shackle on the furler and the anchor rode roller several times to increase purchase whilst one person pried up on the pin with a screwdriver and another pulled down on the forestay(almost worked)...

Todays game plan is try loosen the backstay turnbuckle. If that doesnt work i will try an electric winch...

If thay doesn't work i may try on of happymds mai tai techniques.

You said the backstay was already loosened in your first post, no? Something is not right, and I wouldn't use an electric winch. It shouldn't require all that much muscle to get that pin back in. What were you doing that required removing it anyway, and how did you go about accomplishing that (did you loosen the backstay)?

Re: HELP!

Yep if it was not hard to remove your doing something wrong. When were finally come to the decision that we're going to use a hammer to fix the problem you should stop and rethink the issue..
