For sat communication my choice is Iridium Go. It is very simple to install or you can keep it fully portable. For weather routing, best departure date and weather forecast, PredictWind is #1.
Iridium Go and Predictwind work very well together.
You can purchase a three month subscription to PredictWind and a monthly subscription to Iridium. The standard subscription ($140/month) offers unlimited data, text and 150 minutes of phone calls . You just link you cell phone and make you call.
There is also a free version but will only work while you have cell service or WiFi.
I have been using this system for the past few months and could not be happier with the results.
PredictWind recommends that you practice ahead of going offshore while you have highspeed connectivity.
