Great lakes sailing

Hello all,
Recently I listed a post in regards to a Catalina 30 that I was interested in.
Again I am after some experience for some distance, single handed and some racing. Soooooo much to choose from. I have come across a 1984 C & C 32 & ironically the owner use to sail / race, it in the GLSS, so it is set up to do with what I am after.
Unfortunately for this gentleman his health took a turn for the worse and he has left the boat uncovered and unattended for two years. I looked at the boat just this week and it was no way nearly as bad appearance wise as I thought it would be. I do believe he winterized the vessel, my biggest concern is with the diesel. What can you expect from it sitting for this time. I would like to meet with a surveyor and some fresh batteries at the boat to check the systems.
I believe i can get this boat for around 10K or less, as it sounds like he is ready to give it back to the marina for storage fees.
All of your comments on my prior post were educational, humorous, and welcomed.
Again any feed back would be most welcomed, would also like your thoughts on the Catalina 30 Vs The C & C 32.
Thanks

Re: Great lakes sailing

Having sailed Lake Michigan for over 30 years, I've seen a lot of C&C boats out there racing and cruising. It's a great boat for the Great Lakes because depth usually isn't an issue.

As for the diesel, you could hire a marine mechanic to take a look at it, then you'd know for sure. I've sailed in and out of slips but it sure is a lot easier with an engine. Best to have a pro look at it.
