Grand Soleil 46

I am getting super worked up about this boat. What are peoples' opinions of an older Grand Soleil 46? Anyone know anything about this boat?

Not this one but one of same design.

I helped remove teak and make a GRP deck.

I did like the boat very much but I only seen her at that dock, we never sailed.

I will say same quality that all other boats of this style and era. Definitely not on par with HR, OY or any other upbrand. More like a Bava, Bene or Jeann of the same era.

For my own style, the boat is big. For me, too big. But ymmwv. Where I live (the EU) marinas are pricey and materials are very pricey. Hence a boat so big is a liability.

Being so big she will sail quite easily in most conditions - as long as you replace her standing rigging and fix (if any) rudder issues. Will make good miles too - likely 150 plus on open water passages.

Try to get one with a new engine. Old engine is always a pita. Unless you just want a floating condo in the marina.

I'd take a hard look at the rudder and skeg system. Friends had to abandon their Grand Soleil mid Atlantic, and that was after having a new rudder built in NZ.

Going to be difficult to get parts. Very very rare boat unless you are in Europe.

Maybe why it’s priced so low. I think I remember hearing about this and it was well publicized.
