Gave this a lot of thought when we were re-building DIRT FREE. We decided on granite because we could put a hot frying pan on it and no cutting board required ..... just sweep everything into the undermount sink.

90lbs. on starboard so we built a freezer under the dinette to port, balanced out pretty well, no list.

3/4" thick and no, old counter (what there was of it) was removed.

Has anyone tried granite tile? We're looking at redoing the counter on our Catalina 30. I'm thinking it might be easier than replacing the entire top.

Well, I started this thread so I guess I can post at the end of it. Here's what I installed, and I love it. Blood wood with a custom made under counter sink.
