Furling Jib Clevis Pin Mismatch

I have an Intrepid 9m made by Cape Dory and am upgrading to a rolling headsail. As I am new to the furling world, in obtaining the furling system I have run across a snag. My clevis pin at the bow is 3/8" which would set me up for a smaller furler (Harken ESP 0). The wire for my forestay is 1/4". At the recommendation of the sailmaker, I need the next version up ESP 1, which is set for a 7/16" clevis pin. Drilling the hole in the chainplate (correct term?) seems to me like it would weaken it and be a potential liability. What would be the best way to upgrade this chain plate? I don't know what size the clevis pin is at the mast as I have yet to go aloft.
