Re: Four essential items

Other than the basics of keeping the hull and deck sealed, crew on board, rig up and sails to move the vessel I would say:

1] Position finding equipment, these days that means GPS and maps. I count them as one.
2] Depth sounder
3] Self-steering arrangements: windvane, autopilot and/or sheet to tiller
4] Cockpit covers: dodger at least, bimini close second

And four items have morphed into twenty or more... depending on the number of spares you included.

'Idiotic' Only an idiot would have that reply

It was meant to be a bit light hearted.
I should have mentioned that.
I left out that essential sailing gear should not be included in any of the answers

Example. A hammock to tie up on a tropicsl Island
Or several good books to read

That's more like it

Can never have enough guns

Add to that a massive bag of fire works

All stored next to the stove or better yet the exhaust manifold.

Yes but "essential" was the word you used in the title so . . .

What you want is 4 item that are highly wanted but not quite essential.

1. Bimini
2. Sextant, watch & related references.
3. AIS and/or Radar
4. Laptop for reading and writing
5. CodeZero with the full roller furling kit.

I got 5, I don't feel like following directions this time around.
