im looking to take a roller furling off a 26 foot boat and put it on my 27 foot bristol. i was curious as to what problems i might encounter. would i be wrong to say that the worse thing that happens is that the cable is too short; in which case i would get a new one?
As well as a possible longer forestay, you may need a longer foil unless your going to use the same sail.
One thing that can be done if it's only inches short of being long enough is to have a longer toggle made to fit. If it's all too long, it's simple, just cut everything equally to fit, and maybe the sail too.
I made this toggle to get the sail and spool higher off the deck and away from the anchor.

If it's too short you'll need a longer foil or to move it up like Steve's. Even if the sail is shorter the foil needs to go up to the top so the swivel can get high enough to prevent a halyard wrap. Brion Toss has a nice picture of a forestay ruined due to a halyard wrap.
