First cruise, how to use the freezer

Hi, new guy here.

We are going to our first 7 day sailing trip in BVI end of May. THe boat is Moorings 42 (Benetau). I have some basic questions about usage of the freezer. Could someone help please?

- If I understand this correctly the freezer is just a large cooler. So I would need an ice. Is it so? Or it is also connected to the power?

- How much ice normally is needed (bags??) and now to best arrange it? Put the ice on the bottom or on the top?

- How often do I need to refill the ice? Rough idea?

- Does the freezer have a drain? I suppose so but just want to check.

We cratered a jenneau sun Odyssey in the Seychelles. It had an actual freezer shelf as part of the fridge. I held almost nothing so we added a couple of bags of ice to the bottom of the fridge and the lasted a couple of days

I just checked the specs sheet and it looks like it has a 12v top loading freezer and a 12v front loading fridge. You can keep ice in the freezer for drinks. You shouldn't have to arrange for ice specially, the common items will be easy to get (everybody wants ice)

HAVE DELIVERED MANY BENETEAUS AROUND 40 TO 45 FT AND THEY HAD A LARGE 12V FREEZER IN THE GALLEY AND A SMALL FREEZER IN THE COCKPIT. YOU WON'T HAVE A PROBLEM.

You'll go through quite a lot of ice because those fridges on charter boats are not terribly efficient in that climate with that water temperature.

Ice is sold everywhere in BVI. Fuelling docks sell it, supermarkets sell it, little beach bars sell it, guys who collect money for moorings sell it, even your chartering company sells it.

So, get as much as you can fit in the fridge when you load provisions, and replenish every time you return to civilization to restock rum

Often it is easier to find the information on reprogramming the rom in the chartplotter that this basic info (my guess is many are embarrassed to ask ).
