Finding boat owner

I thought I had seen posts where people were able to locate a boat owner from the Coast Guard site. But I can't find either a link there, or posting in a search here.

If you know how I'd appreciate a pointer.

The Coast Guard does not provide Personal Identifying Information on its Vessel Documentation website, just a bit of information about the vessel such as when a documentation certificate was last issued, the hailing port, the length of the vessel, and whether it is recreational or other purpose. The name of the of the owner used to be included, but they do not provide that information now.

They used to provide this. As a delivery guy it was a great way of making sure I was dealing with the owner.

But the info was taken off line as it appears the data was being abused.

Looks like you can get some info from www.marinetraffic.com if you are willing to pay. The ship would need to be trackable though. Not sure if it works for pleasure craft.
