Totally agree about riding. One of my first bikes was a Harley 45 (ex-WW2) bought it for $75.00 in 59 or 60. I could write a book about that bike. Many of my friends went from sport bikes to Harley's or Harley look a like's...I'm sure they are a blast, just don't try going around corners at a quick pace. Thread drift big time, LOL

Would a modern Triumph Thunderbird be classified as a fake Harley? After all, wasn't it Marlin Brando riding a 1950 Triumph Thunderbird in "The Wild One" the reason the Harley Outlaw Biker look became part of popular culture?

Despite my previous posts, I actually like Harleys. I had one and I grew up in SoCal, the Garden of Eden for motorcycles and boating. In the early-fifties, when the guys and gals were back from WWII and Korea, Harleys were the it bike to have. My point was about the modern rider who is talking the talk but not walking the walk. Here is where I find a segue back to boats.

Poseurs with disposable income can buy a Captaincy in the sailing world without any time before the mast. And without any real experience, many buy a vessel and then argue on CF 'til their last breath about how good it is.

I recall CFer Starzinger writing that he completed a RTW trip or some other significant trip without seeing winds over 35kts. A genuine dockominium can handle that; particularly with a reliable engine to get you off that lee shore.

35 knots on the nose would stop my Honda 90 in its tracks...

She was pretty much a 'creeks and gullys' bike... not designed to go to windward across the pampas with a hard westerly coming over the Andes but fit for purpose all the same.... mustering sheep downwind was her forte.

My daily rider is a VStrom, very versatile here in the South West.
Second is a Softail, a good looking bike

Third is a Sportster, a fast and good looking bike

And a Fake Boat an ugly looking Porta Bote

How is Sportsman fast conzidering other bikes with similar sized engines its actually on the slow side. Vstrom is a good choice and whats with that stable of bikes. How do you find time to sail

You're right, I guess all boats are the same... the skipper is the only difference. It is a 96 HD Sportster 1200 stage III Screaming Eagle (don't ask me what this really means) and believe you me it is quite fast (quick).

As most of us know its damn hard to judge wave height by looking at a video or picture, waves you know are 15 foot plus end up looking like a lake and those that are 20-25 foot look like mediocre sized everyday waves. Even the boat doesn't "appear" to be moving that much in a video.
