Epoxy going yellow

Hi, I've used Wests epoxy resin and filler powder in the past to fix chips etc in my fibreglass boat deck, but it turns yellow and looks bad. Would polyester resin be better? Or can anyone suggest the right product to fix chips, dents etc
Thanks

Re: Epoxy going yellow

Epoxy needs to be protected from UV. Did you just leave it bare? It should be painted over.

You need UV resistance. MarineTex is better but only paint will fix it permanently

Re: Epoxy going yellow

If you're using epoxy like a varnish, you need at least a couple coats of a clear coating with a good UV rating.
A couple coats of epoxy and 2-3 coats of a good UV rated varnish can give an effect of ten coats of varnish.
Poly turns yellow, too.

Re: Epoxy going yellow

Yes, guilty of leaving it bare. Thanks, now I know I need to paint over the repair. Thanks for the replied.
