Yeah. But I'm not so sure it's a good thing for them. The two most popular YouTuber sailors are Delos and La Vagabonde. In both cases I think we, the public, were charmed by their low budget "gypsy" adventures. Riley & Emma will now look like millionnaire sailors and might not attrack as much Patrons sympathy.

Re: Do we hate the Beneteau Oceanis 36CC?

I have been sailing a Beneteau 323 off the coast of San Diego, Southern California for 10 years. Awesome boat, and I might add this is Beneteau country, hundreds of Beneteaus sailing here, the only people that I know that hate them are people that can't afford them!

Re: Do we hate the Beneteau Oceanis 36CC?

This week's Cruising Compass features the CRUISING SHOT OF THE WEEK Miguel Escobar sent a great shot of Water Lilly, a Beneteau 473, surfing the waves on their sail from San Francisco to San Diego, California. Gee whiz maybe they didn't get the word from Cranky Sailor that there boat is a "plastic death trap!"

Re: Do we hate the Beneteau Oceanis 36CC?

In general, Beneteau are mass produced to reduce costs. Deck equipment, is fantastic, as the design, where you can feel the hand of the designer... in a show room. But like many boat builders, Beneteau is in a very competitive market and cost cutting is visible her and there , when you look seriously in the scantings. And mass production imposes stranges short cuts and techniques, like applying varnich before cutting pannels, and this implies that edges of plywood as left raw, not too good in case of water ingress from the edges. And the way the structural grids are glued to the hull in the mold is prone to long term trouble, in my opinion. Same thing with the hull deck joint: Worysome!... Everything is shaved to reduce costs. and that is not unique to Bénéteau. Some recent Bénéteau have lost their keel offshore in gale conditions. But such mass produced boats will never normaly get into such gales. That is not surprising and if you hit some underwater reef or rock, then be ready to call your insurance. But all this said, can also be said to many low cost mass production builders, in Europe and United States. By the way Beneteau are nice sailors, look fantastic, and very inexpensive... relatively... There are better built boats like the Italian Grand Soleil, or the Danish Xboat, with their massive welded and bolted galvanized steel backbone, but they cost a bit more!...

Sheez folks this was supposed to be a tongue in cheek posting cause we found the other day at the marina we liked the boat from the outside but have been "trained" to not like Beneteaus.. It was all in good spirits .. Is there a "delete thread" button somewhere ? ...my goodness.

Speak for yourself mate.. I prefer to find out myself rather than be 'Trained' by the often ignorant opinion of others..
Now if you'd said Bavaria..!!

Re: Do we hate the Beneteau Oceanis 36CC?

Does anyone remember the incident that happened somewhat recently where an anchored Beneteau CC was hit by a 25-30 ft. center console, and guess what, the family on the Beneteau survived!!! Their boat was pretty damaged, but all in all she made out pretty well for being hit at 25 knts.
