Re: Desperately seeking a study...

Consider a used Moody 39 or similar layout. The pilot berth can easily be converted to function as office, work shop or one or two bunks for extra crew on passage, or kids...

I've been working through the same issue. We're moving into full-time liveaboard on a Catalina 42. I don't have room for the computer setup I've been used to (27" iMac w/ 27" external monitor, a color printer, a b&w printer and all the other gear.

This may not work for your husband, but I've been working toward using an iPad Pro for work. It will do the Zoom conferences and it has the research and productivity tools I need. There are a couple of drawbacks, but I think they are compromises I can live with.

So I set up shop on the nav desk with my iPad on a Twelve South HoverBar Duo for iPad, connect a Bluetooth keyboard, and I'm ready to roll. I devote the storage by the nav desk to my essential paperwork.

Works for me.

Don't know if that'll work for his needs, but it may be something to investigate if he hasn't already.

Would this work for your husband?

Can't help with office space. That will have to fit in your boat of choice.

Lots of people trying to convince you on what style of boat you should choose.

You should choose the boat you love. When something goes wrong, and it will, you don't also start hating your choice.

Re: Desperately seeking a study...

I've seen early 2000s Moody 54s with this STBD cabin as an office. It was an option you could get built from the manufacturer, I believe.

A little larger than you're looking for, but maybe a smaller Moody might have a similar option... but, at least you know it's in the realm of the possible.

Cheers,
O

Check out Sailing Uma on YouTube. They did that same alteration on their boat along with a lot of others changes.
