I haven't checked the packing size but assuming it come in either gallon or 4 litres tins, I would be thinking 2 tins. I think their website gives some guidance on coverage. IMO, you always want two coats - minimum!

'just a few clarifications about sand used for non-skid.

"It's not anywhere as good as a commercial latex water based paint"
Well, sand is not the paint! You can choose any quality paint.

"you must paint and sprinkle, then paint again"
This is only an option. If you want one coat, then it's easy to mix the sand into the paint before application. Sand mixes well with all paints.

"the finish is only as good as you can sprinkle"
All applications are as good as your skill. I either mix the sand well into the paint or use a salt shaker with the sand deflected off a piece of cardboard for even distribution.

"it lasts only as long as the base paint will last"
All applied paints will only last as long as the paint.

"It is hard on the skin, especially when you do slip"
This one is true, but this same quality makes slipping very rare.

"It is hard to recoat in the future without a lot of prep work"
I've only recoated when it has worn away after about a ten year period. Prep work was minimal and with the same surface remaining when any paint has warn away.

I find that the sand is most durable, most easily available, least expensive, found free worldwide. environmentally sound and easily applied.

...but yes, it grips so well that it can retain some skin!

Re: Deck Finish

I just checked the Durabak website. It says to expect 60 square feet of coverage per gallon for two coats. I've used almost three gallons, and I think three will cover my needs. My boat is a Samson C- Mist 32, a double-ender, very similar to a Westsail 32 in design and weight.

Re: Deck Finish

Hi all,

Threw this question out there before, but has anybody used "Behr Deckover" and had it on for a year or so?
