Re: Davits for a 2012 Beneteau Oceanis 45

It is written on the picture-200kgs. So motor 25kgs, rib-35kgs, solars-60kgs. And still margin is left.

Re: Davits for a 2012 Beneteau Oceanis 45

We took a very close look at the Factory Arch option when we purchased our Beneteau OC. While I do believe it could have a untested capacity of 440lbs...I would imagine that would be static and not very realistic in real ocean conditions (and the dinghy should not be on the arch anyway!).

Again what safety factors are built into the arch above the 440/200kg....think about leaving that drain plug in and getting a big down pour....you may just rip that transom right off....the tube and fasteners they use are just not enough.

The other factor that steered us away from the OEM....think about where that dinghy is going to hang when you are at the helm or if you have a full enclosure (for us northern sailors)....it just doesnt work...and the primary reason no one is opting to buy this option.

Typically you want to have at least 32-36" overhang if you want to combine solar and davits. That way you have enough space between the backstay and end of the davit arms for glass solar (typically 60" long). As for the dinghy, they are typically 60-65" wide....giving the 33" lifting point where the dinghy can be aft of the helm/transom not to bother the enclosure or captain.

Because we went with bimini mounted semiflex solar, we opted for a swing arm davit...as my wife likes to keep the boat as minimalist as possible when we are not in 'cruising mode'.

Some unsolicited praise goes to my fabricator of choice (They've done three arches for us now). They are no means a cheap way to go (compared to Atlantic or FishOn) but you get what you pay for and these things just need to be built strong and with a custom approach....the one-size fits all doesnt work for me.
